This course aims to provide a solid foundation and platform for students to work and explore creatively and innovatively with the intention of creating visual awareness and artistic expressions.

Students are exposed to drawing skills and techniques, colour studies, photography, printmaking, dimensional studies, art theory, and basic computer graphic skills, paving the way to further studies in the art and design fields such as the diploma programmes in Fine Art, Graphic and Multimedia Design, Digital 3D Animation, Fashion Design Technology, Interior Design, and Architectural Technology, all of which are also offered by the College.

Course Detail

The Diploma in Graphic and Multimedia Design is constructed for communication in print and digital media. The aim of this course is for students to build up their ability to conceptualise, develop, and execute good and effective graphics in both print and screen-based media.

 

In this course, students’ learning process is mirrored in the final outcome of projects, and students will gain a better understanding of current trends in graphic and multimedia design by experimenting with a variety of applications and development packages. During the course, students will participate in various design competitions and study trips in order to strengthen their design knowledge and broaden their experience.

Course Detail

The Diploma in Digital 3D Animation introduces the fundamentals of animation techniques, from the basics of 2D animation to the wonders of 3D animation. Students will be given the opportunity to explore various animation techniques by using both traditional and digital tools.

 

The Hollywood award-winning Autodesk Maya software, which is the leading edge of the entertainment industry, will be used for 3D modelling and animation and will be the focus of this course. The course offers students extensive instructions in the fundamentals of 2D and 3D animation, storyboarding, modeling, conceptual design, special effects, and the integration of sound and vision for the television and entertainment industry.

 

Students will explore key technical, theoretical, and cultural issues in the shaping of digitally-created animation, which reflects the worldwide trend of converging traditional and new media into the unified digital experience that the entertainment industry has become.

Course Detail

The Diploma in Fine Art programme provides students with excellent exposure to all the techniques involved in the discipline. Over the duration of this course, students are given the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of materials, skills, forms, and techniques which provide them with a solid foundation for further development in their chosen art-related careers.

 

Knowledge in the history of art and contemporary art enhances students’ appreciation of local and regional cultures. Creative thinking is nurtured as students are encouraged to think as professional artists. Students can major in a variety of media such as painting, drawing, printmaking, modelling and carving. They are also exposed to exhibitions, seminars, practical workshops, and art dialogues conducted by local and international artists and lecturers.

Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons.) Graphic Communication offshore program USM-EQUATOR is a 4-year full time programme conducted at Equator College, Penang. The candidates must complete 128 units to graduate. Upon graduation, graduates will be awarded Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (Graphic Communication). The Foundation in Design programme offers SPM/SPMV or equivalent school-leavers the opportunity to fulfill higher education plans in the fields of design. This programme offers a balanced curriculum where academic and practical practices are of equal importance.
