Visiting the Involuntary Writing Exhibition

Our students stepped out of the studio to experience Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec’s latest exhibition at Blank Canvas, drawing fresh inspiration and new perspectives from abstract forms, movement, and space.

Financial Freedom Mindset Workshop

Equator College students gained practical financial skills during an interactive two-hour Cashflow Game session. The workshop introduced key concepts like budgeting, assets, liabilities, and decision-making, encouraging participants to think strategically about their financial future. Concrete Making Workshop

Our Interior & Architecture students recently participated in a hands-on concrete making workshop to experience the tactile side of design. Moving from theory to practice, they explored mix ratios, molding, and the structural capabilities of one of architecture’s most foundational materials—gaining crucial technical skills that will elevate their future spatial designs.

Visit to AE Creativ Workshop

Our students recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit AE Creativ for an immersive and insightful creative learning session. This industry visit provided students with valuable exposure to the creative media field, allowing them to learn directly from active industry professionals. During the session, students gained a deeper understanding of the meticulous processes and creative angles involved in professional product photography. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Alex, Mr. Miao Sheng, and our proud Equator College alumna, Ms. Sheue Ying—who is currently thriving as part of the AE Creativ team—for generously sharing their knowledge, experiences, and creative journeys.

Mobile Cinematic Workshop at SMK Westland

Equator welcomed bright future filmmakers during a dynamic Mobile Cinematic Workshop at SMK Westland. The session opened students' eyes to how multimedia design shapes the entertainment industry through video editing and trailer production. The highlights of the day were the practical field exercises, where students actively scouted their school grounds to practice framing creative angles and manipulation of natural lighting.

Canon Malaysia Photography Workshop

Equator welcomed a masterclass in visual storytelling with the Canon Malaysia Photography Workshop. This interactive session gave our photography and multimedia cohorts direct access to top-tier Canon equipment to test out in real-time. Students spent the day capturing stunning portraits of live models while mastering the technical nuances of studio lighting control and creative angle perspectives.

ECL Factory Tour for Furniture Design I

As part of their Furniture Design I subject, our Interior Design students stepped out of the lecture halls and onto the active production floor of ECL for a factory tour. The experiential trip gave our young designers a first-hand look at mass-production machinery, raw material selection, and heavy-duty assembly methods, helping them bridge their conceptual sketches with real-world structural engineering.

SMJK Heng Ee Workshop: Design like an Architect

Equator welcomed structural creativity at our SMJK Heng Ee architectural workshop! Led by our lecturer Mr. Teh, the session taught students the fundamentals of layout design, blending practical building rules with Feng Shui principles. The hands-on briefing gave everyone an open platform to pitch their own design ideas and explore the world of architecture.

Equator welcomed brilliant artistic success at the Yeoh Kongsi competition! We are incredibly proud to witness our student cohorts sweep the top spots, showcasing exceptional creativity and technical skill. Equator College was honoured to host delegates from the China University of Technology (CUTe), Taiwan, for the Opening Ceremony and Exhibition Showcase of the University Social Responsibility (USR) Programme. Our Fashion Technology students traded their sewing machines for looms as they took part in a field trip to ACS Stepping Stone Work Centre. Through a day of hands-on learning, Equator students mastered Batik wax-drawing and explored the intricate world of handwoven fabrics. By understanding how cloth is created from scratch, our future designers are learning to appreciate the true value of every thread.

Conservation Architect: Measured Drawing

True architecture respects history. Our students recently participated in a Conservation Architect workshop, where they focused on the discipline of measured drawing. Conducted by Ar. Ooi Bok Kim & Ms Loo Yee Pei (which is also Equator’s alumni) from B K Ooi Architect, this workshop enable Equator students to learn the processes and methods used in real-life conservation practice.

Georgetown became a living classroom as our students embarked on a curated heritage trail. From iconic colonial landmarks to hidden architectural gems, the outing provided a deep dive into the diverse structures, traditional materials, and unique urban layouts that define our city’s history. This immersive experience allowed students to witness firsthand the evolution of Malaysian architecture.

Our students stepped into the world of traditional shadows in an exclusive workshop led by a master practitioner in the field. The vibrant world of Peranakan art is more than just color and pattern; it is a meticulous language of design where every element carries a specific meaning. Our students stepped beyond the classroom to study the technical precision and cultural logic behind traditional Peranakan outfits and artifacts. Preserving the Past: Heritage Conservation Tour

A heritage building is a living testament to history, holding within its walls a thousand untold stories. To better understand the complexities of architectural preservation, our Built Environment students participated in a Heritage Conservation Study Tour. Illustrating Heritage Competition: Yeoh Kongsi Site Visit

Heritage meets creativity in our latest student illustration competition. To prepare for the challenge, students conducted an in-depth site inspection of the historic Yeoh Kongsi, documenting every intricate detail from its ornate interior carvings to its majestic exterior silhouette. This immersive study served as the foundation for their entries, as students were tasked with capturing the essence of the Kongsi and reinterpreting its architectural beauty through their own unique artistic lenses.

Our Graphic Design students recently dived into the underground world of print and visual art at the SubCulture group exhibition. Organized by the creative collective CultPrint, the showcase provided a raw look at contemporary design trends, experimental typography, and alternative print media. Found Objects Exhibition by Howard Tan at Hin Bus Depot

Inspired by historical treasures, Howard creates captivating photo collages by combining his own images with found objects like old book covers, stained pages, atlases, and measuring tapes. Through his art, he reimagines forgotten stories, blending the past with the present to explore themes of memory and identity.

Mural Mural on the Wall Exhibition by Ernest Zacharevic

In this exhibition, Ernest Zacharevic takes an ironic look at the ever-evolving legacy of his Kids on Bicycle mural — one of his most beloved (and, let’s be honest, most overexposed) works to date.The exhibition begins by celebrating the completion of the George Town mural restorations, which—like all good things—had been slowly fading with time. In 2024, recognizing the mural’s Instagram-worthy importance, Penang Global Tourism called upon Zacharevic to lead the most ambitious restoration to date, not only restoring the murals but also rejuvenating the surrounding walls and elements.

168 Graduation Showcase

Equator College had their biannual graduation showcase organized by the graduating batch of 168. The showcase is to highlight on the graduating student’s work and portray their skills and portfolios relating to their field of study. This batch 168 focuses on the simplicity of design where the showcase touches on the simple arrangements and complexity of each individual.

New Student Orientation

A new batch of students had fun during the Orientation Day organized by SRC. Students will have to go through a series of games to complete their task and learn about the club & societies offered in Equator College.

Mrs Celebrity Malaysia 2019

This year, Fashion Design Technology students had the opportunity to showcase their work at Mrs Celebrity Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The event was graced with many of our talented student’s work and they were accompanied by Fashion Lecturers, Ms. Joo Lee and Mr. Teo. Furthermore, Alumni Ong Hean Choon won the Best Evening Wear Category whereas current student Loh Jing Heng outdone himself in the Ready to Wear Category.
