Fine Art Exhibition by 11 Young Artists

Come and join us for a 7-day Fine Art Exhibition - "Encrypted Palettes" from 11th to 18th Dec 2015 at Alyssa Galeri, 96 & 98 Armenian Street, Penang. The exhibition includes the work of 11 young artists, they are Ang Ee Lyn, Leow Xu Jia, Cheang Chie Hoay, Tey Pheng Pin, Wong Joo Yee, Lim Czen Yee, Sharifah Nadhirah, Chong Wan June, Lai Chia Xin, Ng Tze Tsong, and Yap Ley Min.

The opening ceremony is on 11th Dec 2015 (7:00pm). Admission is Free!

Christmas Card Design Competition

The Special Prize goes to Wong Man Jie and the Consolation Prizes were Teh Wen Ching, Teh Woon Hooi, Poh Chin Shi, Kheoh Ting Ying, Tan Sue Jia, Lee XinRu, Toh Kia Woon, Voon Ying Feng, Teoh Cai Teng and Loo Yee Pei. The competition is organised by SRC committee.

Simple Yet Memorable

On behalf of the Principal Dato' Chuah, he would like to thank all those who attended 5-Star MyQuest's celebration dinner on Wednesday, 2nd December 15, and making it one of the most rememberable evenings that he have had with staff, friends and family. He also thank everyone did to help make it into 5-star rated college. It was a watermark moment, one that would not have happened without the student, staff, friends & family support and guidance along the way.

Equator's Artcamp 2015 turns 10 Years Old

This year marks the 10th year of our Artcamp, filled with art, design & craft workshops. Our candy-themed event this year will be filled with fun and excitement!
Start your adventure to discover the forbidden Candy Kingdom, and experience a day of creative learning by exploring your artistic horizons through our series of exciting activities and games. We are sure that you will meet new friends and learn new skills! This camp will give you a taste of the diverse art & design programmes that Equator College has to offer.
This year attractive prizes such as laptop, tablet, bluetooth speakers, 5-star hotel buffet dining and more awaits you! The event is open to students age 13 - 19.

It has been a busy week with Candy Kingdom Art Camp. We would like to thank each and everyone for participating in our 10th-anniversary camp. It was memorable and adrenaline-thrilling, and definitely sad to leave at the end of the day when we have made so many new friends.

The Lucky Winners of our ArtCamp were Simran Kau Gill from Convent Light Street, she walked away with HP Laptop, followed by Lim Ming Jie from SMK St Mark, he walked away with HP Tablet and 3rd winner is Sharon Tan Chun Mei also from Convent Light Street, she received a HP Bluetooth Speaker. Congratulations!!!

Loy Kratong Festival at Hatyai University, Thailand

We are proud to be invited by Hatyai University to be part of this celebration where 7 students and 3 staff were there to witness the competition of Miss Loy Kratong beauty pageant and also the most beautiful loy kratong built model.

The group of students and staff then got the opportunity to have their kratong floated down the lake nearby in the University together with the President. We were also having our chances to take a group photo with one of the traditional Thai dancers who were all students of the university.

Peace Carnival - Graffiti Competition

Congratulations to our students from School of Art & Media Design (Graphic & Multimedia Design) for winning the 1st prize & 3rd prize in the graffiti competition! Keep up the good work!
The carnival is organised by GITA, a Penang based NGO, for public to spread the awareness of peace and unity, especially targeting the young.

10 Fashion Students Made it to the Finals

Congratulations to all 10 Equator College Fashion students who made it to the finals in the Malaysia Footwear Design Competition 2015. We're proud to announce student Hea Jing Ee won 2nd Runner up in Evening Shoe Category. And 2 students Heah Hui Xuan and Lai Wan Sean won the Most Promising Award for Avant Garde Category.

Tanjong Heritage 2015 Winners

Equator students have once again done it! Congratulations to Hiou Zi Jiang for winning 2nd prize, Leow Xu Jia and Chong Jun Jie for winning 3rd prize in the Tanjong Heritage National Level Art Competition 2015. You have made us very proud!
The Tanjong Heritage art competition was launched in 2001 by Tanjong Public Limited Company (TPLC) to promote the appreciation of Malaysia's heritage among Malaysian youth and to nurture and showcase the talents of our young artists. All the staff and lecturers of Equator would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners and participants for their effort.

Deebuk Phang-Nga Wittayayon School Holiday Camp at Equator

Equator is honored to host the Holiday Camp for Thai Students from Deebuk Phang-Nga Wittayayon School, Phanga-Nga Province. A 5-day English, Art & Design workshop for 31 charming students and teachers to explore, discover and create the art and craft prepared for them.

Lecturers guide students as they create and explore art, and animation by imagine in their own unique ways, experimenting with a variety of art materials and methods that encourage the development of creative thinking and problem solving skills. Last day of the camp, they were touched to see themselves played in the video, and be inspired to others. Hope to see you all again!

Sketching Workshop by Master Ch'ng Kiah Kiean

Today's we are honor to invite famous artist Ch'ng Kiah Kiean for Sketching Workshop and live demonstration. He is an artist, a designer, and a photographer with a unique and expressive painting style with influence from Chinese Paintings.
He shared his sketching techniques and demonstrated on the ways to make your own dry twig sketching tool, different type of lines work and papers that can be achieved.

Tokyo Japan Study Trip

From 17th - 23rd September, our Digital 3D Animation students traveled to Tokyo, Japan to attend Tokyo Game Show 2015, interviewed pop culture personality Danny Choo at his Tokyo studio and experienced the Japanese culture. The study trip provides them with a unique learning experience to deepen their understanding and appreciation for the Japanese arts and culture. In addition to museum and exhibition visits, they also attended award-winning illustrator Ashley Wood's Japan Venture "With Smiles On Our Lips" exhibition , where they got the chance to meet him in person.

ASEAN-Japan Conference 2015

For the first time, an ASEAN-Japan TV Festival was organized by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and Radio Television Malaysia and ASEAN countries to strengthen cooperation and stay relevant to the ever changing landscape of the new media and broadcasting industry.
The festival opened with a two-day forum for the delegates to discuss trends and opportunities for ASEAN-Japan collaboration in television such as co-production, programme exchanges, media convergence and copyright protection. Speakers from ASEAN and Japan ranged from policy-makers to producers and content developers on 9-12 September 2015 in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Great blends of Fashion Designer & Hair Stylist at Samsung Innovative Awards 2015

In conjunction with MODA 25th anniversary, MODA continues to collaborate with Samsung Malaysia for the Young Designers' Innovation Award 2015.
Congratulations to fashion design technology students Gavin Tan Jia Wei & Brendan Chan Chee Kean, were selected for this year Malaysia Official Designers Association (MODA) 2015 Samsung Innovative Awards 2015 Top 12 finalist on Thursday, 3rd September 2015 in Kuala Lumpur.

Colour Carnival 2015 by Student Council

From time to time the SRC organised fun events welcoming the new students. The month of August, they celebrated Colour Carnival in Penang-style by having Laksa, Western meals, Oriental meals, Popcorn, Games and Prizes to try your luck. The Leith Street heritage buildings offered live music band performances to chillout throughout the day. It was a well deserved, relaxing and fun Saturday for all students and public to enjoy.

Beauty and Grotesque Art Exhibition

Weirdly sexual and visually examining the nature of truth; meet the 11 Fine Art alumni and students deconstructing the beauty from their paintings.
The group exhibition by 11 inspiring artists were Cheang Chie Hoay, Tey Pheng Pin, Wong Joo Yee, Leow Xu Jia, Ang Ee Lyn, Sharifah Nadhirah, Lim Czen Yee, Ang Bee Ching, Lee Siew Wen, Ho Su San and Lee Sydney.

Thank you everyone for participating the urban sketching and artist sharing session in the evening. It was a great pleasure working together with famous artists such as Khoo Cheang Jin, Chong Hon Fatt, and Ch'ng Kiah Kiean. Their passion and commitment towards art has achieved a great height in sharing and developing the community with the same passion. Not to mention our main organiser of the events were China Press, Mr.Goh and Eu Yan Sang represented by Mr.Tang.
